Have you ever been stuck in a moment so heavy, it felt like it would never end?
I’ve been there. During the worst of my depression, it felt like every minute dragged on with no sign of relief.
One thing I’ve learned – both as a psychiatrist and as someone who’s lived through it – is that pain has a way of tricking us into thinking it will last forever.
But pain doesn’t last forever.
Things do get better. Slowly, yes – but they do.
When we’re struggling with anxiety or depression, our perspective narrows. It’s hard to imagine a future that feels better. But it’s in these moments that holding on to the right mindset becomes even more important.
🔸 3 Ways to Keep Perspective Through Hard Times 🔸
✅ Zoom Out on the Bigger Picture
What feels impossible today won’t always feel that way. Try asking yourself, “How will I feel about this in a week? A month? A year?” This helps take the edge off the moment and gives you room to breathe.
✅ Progress is Quiet
Healing isn’t loud. Sometimes it’s just getting out of bed. Sometimes it’s one deep breath. Celebrate the small wins — they matter more than you think.
✅ Borrow Hope from Others
If you can’t feel hope right now, borrow it. From someone who has been there. From a therapist. From a story. Hope doesn’t need to start with you to eventually live inside you.
“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” – Nelson Mandela
No storm lasts forever.
You’re stronger than you know.
And one day soon, you’ll look back and realize just how far you’ve come.
